LISA SOTERO - Biography
Known for the use of vibrant colors in her paintings, Lisa is drawn to a variety of subjects. She is inspired to paint simple objects of the everyday and the impressive beauty of the landscapes that surround her. She paints in her studio and en plein air where the light is continually changing, challenging her to capture the impression of what she sees and feels. Color and light give her inspiration.
Born and raised in Pasadena, California she spent much of her youth surrounded by natural beauty. Inspired by the mountains and valleys, deserts and ocean within reach she dreamed of herself becoming an artist. Following “practical” wisdom she earned a BA in Environmental Design from San Diego State University and pursued a career in architecture with her husband in Northern California.
In 1988 she began to paint in oils. She has studied at the Scottsdale Artists' School in Arizona and with several well-known artists such as Keith Wicks, Susan Diehl, Henry Stinson, Barbara Bailey-Porter, Tobin Keller and Boni Appleman. In 1998 her life-long passion for painting evolved into a profession as private collectors in the US and Europe began to acquire her works. Lisa’s work has been featured at several galleries.
Lisa lives near the beach on the Northern Coast of California with her architect husband and two children. She is inspired everyday by the beauty of her surroundings and changing atmosphere.
Lisa has traveled widely through the United States, Eastern and Western Europe, Turkey, Mexico and Central America. She and her husband spent one year living in Italy…
